I have heard that
male cats are supposedly responsible for more allergens than female, and light colored cats have less allergens.
I personally have not found this to be true, I have never noticed a difference between male and female or coat color when it comes to severity of allergy symptoms. I have been allergic to cats since childhood, I got my first Devon in 2004 and was mildly allergic to
her off and on, but much less than to a regular cat, I was determined to have Devons so I persevered.
within the next year and a half I had
3 or 4 more Devons in the house, plus several litters of
kittens, I would react occasionally to them but it
seemed to lessen with time and now they can rub on my face and I don't have any reaction at all. This is why I think it is somewhat pointless for people
to come and see if they are allergic to them, they may have reactions at first
but it won't be as bad as a regular cat, and I think you really have to be committed to sticking it out until your body adjusts to them and
it will. A few lucky people will not have any reaction from the start, but regardless, I have never known anyone to react to them anywhere near as severely as a regular cat.
